Stairway to The Back Room Part II

Rasputina

Nicole and I got to the Troubadour at about seven and got in line with a few of her friends. We all chat for a while, until the box office opens. General talking mostly. And I must say, I felt more out of place than I ever have before. But for all the time that I spent out of place, I didn't really care, because I was excited to finally see Rasputina in person.

We went in at about eight, got a couple beers, and waited, front row of the stage, right where Zoe plays.

First up, were the Hazard County Girls. A group of three girls who reminded of me and my band back on 2000. A little bit of rock, and completely inaudible vocals, they brought back a few good memories of band practice in my backup guitarists' Garage.

The songs that the Hazard County Girls played reminded me of a few songs that I wrote, but I just wish I could have heard the vocals. I know, when I was playing and singing, I could hear myself singing, but no one else in the band could hear shit. Why you ask? Because we didn’t have either the right equipment, and balancing the sounds of two guitars, a bass and a drum set were hard enough to figure out without throwing in vocals as well. So the solution was that we turned up the only PA system we had, an 8" little guitar amp and a mic, and hoped for the best. Needless to say, like Hazard County Girls, we still couldn't hear shit... but the music kicked ass.

During Hazard County Girls, there was one particular girl behind me that was completely trashed, and dancing behind me. Now Usually I don’t mind this at all. People always end up swaying or bouncing a little when they're listening to live music at levels usually reserved for the Super Bowl Halftime show. I could feel that she was having a good time, so I left her alone... until she decided that she wanted to intrude upon feeling my back in a sensual way. Well, Nicole noticed that before I did because I was getting lost in the music... and Nicole was getting pissed as you could well imagine. Well, a few minutes of nothing and I get a chill. Turns out Nicole was throwing such a look of "Get the hell away from my boyfriend", that several people noticed, and pulled the girl away from me. I can tell that Nicole was pissed, but what the hell was I going to do? I mean, I usually hate confrontation. But if it would have happened again, I would have said something. A few minutes later, the girl moves to another part of the floor.

After about forty-five minutes of Hazard County Girls, then it was time for another beer and a short wait for Rasputina. I'm glad that Melora, Zoe, and Johnathon didn’t keep us all waiting for an hour before coming on. If there is one thing I hate, is that bands will keep a crowd waiting and waiting. Korn did that the first Summer Sanitarium Tour. It was still bright outside, so they stayed backstage until it was dark... so an almost two hour food fight and boobie flashing contest broke out. Alas, Rasputina didn't make us do that.

Rasputina is absolutely amazing in person. There is something about listening to instruments that are usually reserved for orchestras, in a small setting, playing music that is in a genre all it's own, calling it "rock" isn't even doing it justice. And with Nicole's fascination with Melora, I found myself mesmerized by Zoe. Probably because she was playing no more that two feet away from me, she had my attention most of the night. And Johnathon was throwing a few looks at Nicole, but that's only because they hang out from time to time.

After the show, Nicole and I hung around to talk with Johnathon. It took about twenty minutes to get a chance for Johnathon to get to us, but I finally met him. Now he's an alright guy, seems pretty down to Earth, and doesn’t have that "Holier than Thou" attitude that a lot of musicians have. We talked fora few, and then the security guy said, "Everyone Out!" At which time Johnathon said, "Screw it, come up with us and hang out for a while. We're all friends here." So Nicole, Johnathon and I walk upstairs into the backstage area. I met Zoe, and tried to meet Melora, but she was engulfed in conversation. Not wanting to be rude, I didn’t interrupt Melora.

Staying up there for roughly twenty minutes, Nicole and I decided that it was time to go, seeing we had to see Adam at a bar a couple miles away. WE said goodbye to Zoe and Johnathon, and walked to the car.

We met up with Adam at the bar. A very recognizable music was playing. "Adult" (sorry I cant find the website) was DJ'ing after Adam DJ'ed the first part of the night. And "Adult" is well liked by Nicole and Myself, but they weren't performing, they were just DJ'ing, which is still cool, but not hte same.

All in all, it was a fantastic night, despite that Nicole bought five tickets for Rasputina, and only her and I went since Benton, and Christina bailed on us. But Nicole was able to sell a couple of the tickets in line. So Thank you Nicole to the enjoyable and memorable evening.

End of Yet Another Generation

Right now, as I'm writing this blog, an ending of something that has inspired me for most of my life is closing another door. This inspiration, has sparked so many dreams and ideas, and indirectly, has steered my life to where it is today... at a leading edge of technology.

To any one who is reading this, who actually realize what I'm talking about, then I wouldnt doubt that you and I could talk for hours without pause.

I'm talking about the last and final episode of the Star Trek Saga that has captured audiences since the mid 60's. Tonight, is the final episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Regretfully, I haven't seen every episode as religously as I've watched the TNG episodes, but I'll change that when I get the DVD's.

"All Good things..."

Stairway to The Back Room

Last night, I went to my first Rasputina show at the Troubadour. And if you have EVER had a craving for a different and completly unique style of music and show, I would reccomend that you at least listen to Rasputina. I mean, how many bands do you know that can turn two cello's and a drumset, into a rock concert? Yeah, I didnt think you could think of any.

But at this point, I'll post this and continue the kick ass night with Rasputina, and my adventure backstage, tomorrow when I feel a little more rested.

Until Tomorrow.

The Angels Are Not in the Outfield

Yesterday, I went to my first Major League Baseball game; Angels verses Indians.

My dad called me up at about eleven and asked if I wanted the tickets since my dad and his boss/friend weren't able to make it. So I call up Nicole, and she is almost surprised. You see, this time, when Nicole and I are together, we're going out a lot more. Not staying at her place all night, but going out with friends, parties, shows, and the like, but never to a baseball game. So it was a nice change of scenery.

We got to the game, I had a beer, and Nicole had a Mikes Hard Limeade (that tasted like a pure lime right off my tree). We head up to the upper deck, and watch the game. And, like their last game, loose to the Indians.

But It was an experience I wont forget, and I enjoyed it.

Boing-Boing

On Saturday, I got to install my new Steeda Sport Springs on my Mustang. I spent about three hours installing all four of them.

When I was installing them, I only got a few cuts, which goes with the saying "I put my blood and sweat into that car!" For some reason, I can never really work on a car without some kind of physical injury. I'll just suppose that is due to my lack of real experience. I mean, I can fix damn near anything on a car, from electronic to mechanical, but I don’t exactly get to practice very often.

I finish the install and measure the stance... and low-behold, since I did it on a dirt pad, I couldn’t tell the difference... right away anyway.

I drove the car down to Jessie's house to pick up my mom's mother's day gift, using the excuse "I have to test out my new springs. I'll be back before lunch." And wow, what a difference a set of springs will do! Handling, roll, out of the hole acceleration have all been improved. But...

I noticed that my shocks and struts are almost completely useless. Great, something else I have to spend money on... and not before my clutch is replaced.

Crap.

Vaynes of Mud and An Oxygen Tank

In honor of Charles' Birthday, And the fact that one of his favorite bands are playing this year at Ozzfest this year, I figured I would treat him, Anessa, Jared, Nicole and Myself to a few tickets.

I didn’t care how much it cost. Charles has done a shit load for me over the years, and I need to start paying him back. He doesn’t know that I appreciate it all, even though I'm a dumbass some of the time (ok, most of the time) and I forget the little things, I sometimes forget that I consider Charles to be my brother. And Brothers, sometimes forget exactly how much they mean to each other.

So I paid off my Visa last Friday, then got him the birthday present that he never knew he wanted.

Happy August 23rd, 24th Birthday Charles. My birthday party didn’t suck, and neither will yours!

Shortsighted Oversight

In my haste to go to sleep yesterday, I greatly overlooked a very significant detail about my birthday.

It seems that it was brought to my attention that my best friend Charles was actually the the culprit behind both of my last birthdays. And only now did he tell me about it.

All this time, I was thinking that Nicole would be the one planning everything, seeing how she was asking me for everyone's phone number. But it only goes to show, that the ones who wont say a thing about anything, are usually the ones behind it all.

I'm sorry that I was so hasty in overlooking my best friend in the planning of my birthdays. Thank you Charles for being the quiet conspirator.

Birthday Celebration

Well, I suppose I should blog about my bitch'n day... even though it's a week late.

I had a wonderful day, nice easy day at work, no hassle except for the typical idiots that the Department of Transportation deem worthy to drive vehicles, and a great evening.

Well, To save me writing the whole day's events, again, I'll link up a thread that has pictures, and the events of the day.

Here is the link.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my girlfriend Nicole for putting so much effort in making my 24th birthday a special one! Without my girl there, well, I would have had yet another shitty birthday.

Drinking and Blogging

Many of you noticed that my last update was quite... uhh. . . interesting. Spelling errors, gramatical errors, and generally, it looked like I didnt take any time on it.

Mostly thats true. And it was due to drinking one to many beers. It was my fault, and I'm not going to change it because I would like to be reminded of the dangers of blogging and drinking.

Mustang in Moderation

You'll remember my post last month about Justin giving up his Mustang in lieu of a Mazda 6.

Well Yesterday, the news came that finally gave me the oportunity to show the whole damn V6 Mustang community that I know what the hell I'm talking about.

After three weeks of deliberation, I was given the job of a Bolt Ons Moderator at 3.8mustang.com.

This overall came as a surprise to me because they had already given one position to another well qualified guy named Cliff, a friend of mine through the same site. But apparently, I've been making enough of an impression to the upteen mods and admins there to show them that I know the difference between a Straight Shot, and a Straight through exhaust.

Mike (Jester4Kicks) has been baiting me with information, but only to the point that they were considering me. ANd Sunday, one of the administrators of the site made me the moderator and talked to me a bit on AIM.

Now, regretfully, and I'm very sorry I did it, but while I was talking to John @ 3.8mustang.com, Nicole was laying on my bed, watching Golf because my dumb ass didnt change the channel to something even remotely interesting. So I owe her one for that.
